Chronic disease management
Care for diabetes and more in Humphrey and Lindsay, NE
Life is full of ups and downs, and one of those downs for you may be suffering from a chronic disease. “Chronic” means an illness that has been persisting for a long time — so there’s no quick fix or magic pill you can take to feel better. You can, however, manage your chronic disease and its symptoms, and the providers at Humphrey and Lindsay medical clinics can help you. Our providers treat many different chronic diseases, including:
- High blood pressure – Often called “hypertension,” this is when your heart and blood vessels have to work harder to pump blood through your body. High blood pressure can put you at risk for stroke or heart attack.
- Diabetes – There are two types of diabetes — Type 1 and Type 2. In both types of diabetes, there is too much sugar in your bloodstream, which can lead to dangerous or even life-threatening conditions. People with diabetes are also at risk for complications such as foot problems and nerve and kidney damage.
- Heart disease – There are many different risk factors for heart disease, including genetics, excess weight, inactivity, smoking and alcohol use. Your primary care provider can help you identify whether you have those risk factors and help you manage or even eliminate them.
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – This is a lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. While COPD is a disease that becomes worse over time, there are ways to manage it, including stopping smoking, participating in an exercise program and taking certain medications that can increase airflow.
